Global payment technology company Visa has announced the launch of the Visa Africa Fintech Accelerator program to support the growth of fintech startups in Africa, foster innovation, and drive the digital transformation of the continent’s economies.
Set to begin in July 2023, the initiative aims to provide about 40 fintech startups from Africa with the opportunity to scale their services and stimulate their growth.
The program is designed as a three-month intensive learning experience focused on business growth and mentorship. Upon completion of the program, Visa plans to offer support for the selected startups through capital investment and access to the company’s technology and capabilities, facilitating their commercial launch.
Startups interested in participating in the program can apply during two application phases each year, starting in July 2023. Visa noted that over 1,000 African fintech startups have participated in the Visa Everywhere Initiative since its launch in 2015, and finalists from this competition will be invited to join the accelerator program.
